Krankenkassen sollen mehr für Prävention zahlen

von EVA QUADBECK - RP Online

Berlin (RP).

11 Surprising Causes of Anxiety (Sorry If Reading This Stresses You Out!)

Awful situations aren't the only things that make us walking balls of nerves.

What we eat and drink can affect our moods and irritability levels as well.
Here are a few causes of anxiety that you may not have thought were triggers.

Once you've identified all the things that get you stressed out, you may finally be able to relax

Food additives: Aspartame, food coloring, dyes
Many people report mood swings and anxiety after ingesting man-made sweeteners, like aspartame and high fructose corn syrup, food dyes (including Red #40 and Yellow #5) and flavorings like MSG. Direct links between artificial food additives and mood are still under investigation though they've been implicated as a cause of ADHD and autism in children. The fact is that dyes and artificial sweeteners are neurotoxins that can disrupt normal nervous system function, leading to increased symptoms of anxiety.

Over the counter drugs and supplements
Medicines that contain caffeine, including several headache and migraine relievers, some cough medicines, decongestants, asthma medications and weight-loss supplements that includes stimulants, can lead to increased heart rates and a spike in feelings of anxiety. Popular herbal remedies and supplements like St. John's Wort, ginseng and kava kava may also cause or increase unease.

Food sensitivities
Symptoms of food sensitivity can range from digestive issues like stomach pain to difficulty breathing. While both of these problems can cause anxiety, there's also increasing evidence that food sensitivities affect mood directly as well. Gluten, soy, dairy -- even chocolate -- can impact hormones lelvels and other key chemicals in the brain, upsetting the delicate balance needed to keep the body and mind in control of anxiousness.

Skipping meals
In our harried, stressful world, skipping a meal here and there is all too common. What's more, many people who are anxious and stressed may feel they have no appetite or simply lack the desire to eat. But for most people used to regular meals, skipping meals causes a drop in the body's blood sugar levels. If prolonged, this drop may lead to increased feelings of anxiety and irritability. Other anxiety-provoking effects of low blood sugar are dizziness, light-headedness, confusion and weakness.

Dehydration
A 2009 study at Tufts University found a clear link between hydration and mood. The study found that student athletes who were just mildly dehydrated reported feeling angry, confused, tense and fatigued. Staying hydrated is essential to keeping the body's physiological functions running smoothly, including speeding the healing process and removing toxins. Drinking enough water daily may be one of the easiest ways to help the body control its nerves.

Caffeine
Millions of people rely on a regular caffeine fix to jump start their day or to perk up when their energy nosedives. But too much is no good. "Caffeine-induced anxiety disorder" is actually a recognized condition found in The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, the "bible" used by mental health experts throughout the United States. As most people are aware, too much caffeine can cause a racing heartbeat, which can trigger a panic attack. And while a little caffeine can improve one's ability to focus, too much may increase nervousness and a host of anxiety symptoms, like sweating palms, ringing in the ears, even feelings of impending doom.

Cigarettes, drugs and alcohol
Relying on smoking, drinking or using drugs to feel calmer can backfire. Nicotine is a stimulant that studies have shown can raise blood pressure and heart rate. In addition, the carbon monoxide in cigarette smoke also may cause breathing problems that the body responds to as if it's suffocating, increasing the likelihood of panic attacks. As for alcohol and drugs, people suffering from an anxiety disorder are two to three times more likely to abuse these than the general population, according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America. Both alcohol and drugs can lead to panic attacks and their disruptive effect on the central nervous system limits the brain's ability to calm the mind and body.

Nutrient deficiencies
Make sure you eat your vitamins! B complex, C and E vitamins play important roles in nervous system function, and B vitamins particularly affect mood and metabolism. Magnesium is known to help relieve stress, thus a deficiency in this mineral may lead to irritability and apathy. Selenium, an antioxidant essential to the efficient function of neurotransmitters in the brain, helps control mood. And according to a 2006 study, people with lower levels of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids were also at increased risk of anxiety.

Age
As we age, we face multiple stresses that can bring on bouts of anxiety. Life events such as health changes, memory problems, the death of a spouse or even a seemingly happy change like retirement, can all be stress-provoking. The Geriatric Mental Health Foundation estimates that 10-to-20 percent of older adults suffer from anxiety, although many go untreated because they may not recognize the symptoms.

Negative thinking
Many therapists stress that persistent negative thinking really does have a harmful effect on our emotional well-being. Ever hear of automatic negative thoughts (or ANT’s)? These are quick, unconscious, off-the-cuff criticisms that the mind churns out when faced with stressful situations. "Why did I do that?" "Why am I so dumb?" and other negative self-criticisms wreak havoc on your emotional state. The good news is that a therapist can help you identify these ANT’s and reduce the power they have on your psyche.

Keep Learning Everyday
A song, smell or location can be unconsciously linked to a bad feeling or memory, which can be problematic. This is perhaps most common in cases of post-traumatic stress disorder (where, for example, a soldier hearing a loud bang may associate the sound with gunfire and thus become anxious), but it can occur in other types of anxiety as well. Identifying anxiety-provoking unconscious cues on your own can be difficult. However, with the help of a therapist it's possible to untangle this complicated process and put negative thoughts in their place.

Tap body's internal energy rhythm to avoid burning out

Matching your daily tasks with your energy level throughout the day can help keep you from burning out.

Daniel Day Lewis made history by being the first male actor to win three Academy Awards in the best actor category. He won for “Lincoln” (2013), “There Will Be Blood” (2007) and “My Left Foot” (1989).

According to Steven Spielberg, Daniel Day Lewis acts using a method in which he never breaks character on the set. His roles become all-consuming. He goes full throttle into every part that he plays — one of the main reasons for his immense success in the dramatic arts.

Unfortunately for the movie industry, Daniel Day Lewis recently announced he was taking a needed break for a few years. He called it “a lie down.” His comments alluded to the notion that he was burnt out from his current job.

Many people are like Daniel Day Lewis. They go full throttle at work. Their jobs are all-consuming and it is non-stop from one day to the next.

Unlike Lewis, most of us are not multimillionaire actors who can leave our careers for years at a time and just “lie down.” Instead, we must figure out ways to go full throttle without burning out.

The secret to going full throttle is to harness your internal energy rhythms. Our bodies have a natural internal energy rhythm. You can feel it: Place two fingers on the side of your neck and get your pulse. This is the rhythm of life. This is your internal energy rhythm. Once you tap into your energy cycles at the right time, you will not only maximize your productivity but also prevent burnout.

You can accomplish this “Full Throttle” process in three easy steps:

Step 1: Become aware of the rise and fall of your natural energy levels.

Does your energy soar in the morning? Does it take a skid after lunch? Do you have a second wind in the afternoon?

While most individuals will have a few peaks and valleys throughout the day, everyone is unique. Knowing when your energy soars as well as when it droops is the first step in going full throttle without burning out.

Step 2: Create an energy to-do list.

Most successful individuals create a to-do list. Here is a twist — quantify those activities on your to-do list in terms of three different levels of energy: high, moderate and low. Meeting with a disgruntled client may take immense energy whereas sending out e-mails requires low energy.

Step 3: Create an energy plan in which you match tasks to your energy levels.

More specifically, place the most demanding energy tasks at times when your energy is soaring. Position moderate energy level tasks for times in the day when your energy begins to slide and do low energy tasks when you have bottomed out.

My energy peaks in the morning, so I write this column and do my creative work early in my day. I also have another peak around 2 p.m. and I have scheduled to teach my classes then. This matching system has allowed me to be very productive at the right times during the day.

On the flip side, if I did my high-energy tasks when I had naturally low energy, I would be forcing my creativity. Not only would this make me less effective, it would also zap my energy, and increase my chances of burning out.

Energy rhythms are all around us — the ebb and flow of tides, the migration of birds, the moon orbiting the Earth, and the Earth orbiting the sun.

There is a rhythm to the universe.
Once you capture those rhythms in your life,
then you will be able to go full-throttle without burning out.

"Stressreport Deutschland 2012"

Der Stressreport wertet Befragungen von rund 18.000 Erwerbstätigen differenziert nach Alter, Geschlecht, Arbeitszeitumfang, Position, Wirtschaftszweigen und Berufen aus.
Zentrale Belastungsfaktoren sind:

verschiedene Arbeiten gleichzeitig betreuen / Multitasking

starker Termin- und Leistungsdruck

ständig wiederkehrende Arbeitsvorgänge

Arbeitsunterbrechungen

sehr schnell arbeiten müssen

weitere Ergebnisse:

Gemeinsame Deutsche Arbeitsschutzstrategie (GDA)

Burnout –
überall hört man es, doch was steckt eigentlich dahinter?

Doch was kann man gegen Burnout tun?

Prevent Stress & Burnout: Benefits of Ayuveda Massage Techniques

The traditional Ayurveda massage is done on the whole body with medicated oil in a special rhythm and pattern. It is a systematic way of treatment for almost all major diseases. There are several techniques in the Ayurveda massage to increase blood circulation and to make the joints, muscles, nerves and vertebrae flexible. It stimulates the heart, nerves, endocrine glands, joints, muscles and the digestive system.

These massage techniques provide relaxation, circulation and elimination of toxins. If adopted as a daily practice, Ayurvedic massage techniques can even help to rejuvenate the body. In ancient times, ayurvedic clinics did not regularly offer massage, as everybody gave and received it. Only when patients needed a particular treatment were they referred to specialists that used the appropriate ayurvedic techniques. Today in India, practitioners roam the public places in great number and give head and body a massage for a few rupees. Although they often have little knowledge of Ayurveda they do know how to work with muscles, joints and bones. Many have received training based on the massage developed by wrestlers.

Ayurvedic doctors who were also wrestlers developed a special system of their own that contained the knowledge of the Ayurvedic system of medicine.

These traditional indian massage techniques are based on the ayurvedic Doshas and Marmas (vital pressure points like in reflexology). Specific ayurvedic massage techniques have also been developed for Massage Therapy, used in certain therapeutic treatments like in panchakarma purification. These massage techniques should only be practiced in a particular disease condition under supervision of an Ayurvedic doctor or vaidya. In rural areas, weekly massage is still a family scene. People in India enjoy it – they know that like a best friend it brings joy and relaxation. Medicated oils are essential to any Ayurveda massage.
Abhyangam

In Ayurveda the massage is described as Abhyangam.

Benefits of Ayurveda Massage

1. Jarahar (anti aging) – If done daily to the spine, feet and head with sesame oilmustard oilor almond oil massage increases virility, vitality and semen. The body is made up of seven tissue ingredients that are called as Dhatu. Because massage is one practice, which provides energy, vitality, and nourishment to all seven Dhatus and old age approaches late, one remains young and energetic for longer duration. In this way, massage is anti aging.

2. Shram Har (fatigue reliever) – Fatigue is actually caused by physical and mental strain. It affects the muscles and causes tensions. Rubbing, patting and squeezing muscles gently removes fatigue.

3. Vata Har (pacifies the Vata) – Constant strain on the nervous system from Vata producing foods and anxieties disturb the Vata and one starts having pain in the muscle and joints. Regular abhyangam massage with Mahanarayana oil or oils prepared by burning garlic in heated oil, or adding fenugreek seeds to boiling oil, mint oil and wintergreen oil all help the troubles created by Vata.

4. Drishti Prasad Kar (Improves sight) – Daily practice of abhyangam massage can improve sight and reduces the risk of blindness. Those who have weak sight or who suffers from diseases of the eyes should massage the feet, especially under the big toe. They should also massage the spine, neck and head regularly. This will remove eye troubles and improve vision.

5. Pushti Kar (makes one strong) – By increasing the circulation of vital life fluids, and because of rubbing, pressing and kneading massage makes the body strong, increases stamina, vitality and virility.

6. Ayu Kar (provides longevity) – By creating an electrochemical balance, massage helps in achieving longevity.

7. Swapna Kar (induces sleep) – Massage relaxes the body and removes tensions. Those suffering from sleeplessness, insomnia or those who are unable to enjoy sound sleep should massage the body (especially the head and feet) before sleeping. The use of oil in this case, especially oil from pumpkin seeds, massaged on the head is very helpful. Brahmi oil is also advised.

8. Twak Dridh Kar (strengthens the skin) – Dryness of the skin is caused due to dry climate, excess mental work, anxieties and constant worrying. People who live in cold climates get dry skin by constantly facing the chilled air, which creates dryness. Vata, by nature, is cold and dry and its cold property is more active when there is a cold wave or cold wind. The skin directly comes into contact with the external atmosphere, and the skin also reflects like a mirror to the inner state of the physical body. There are so many other factors that make skin unhealthy like cosmetics of chemical origin, pollution etc. Massage with oil remove dryness, which is first sign of disturbed Vata in the body. Massage also makes the skin smooth and makes it shine. Regular rubbing makes it strong.

9. Klesh Sahatwa (provides resistance against disease and disharmony) – Massage strengthens the seven ingredients of which the body is made up. These antibodies provide more resistance to disease, and the strength, which comes from the seven Dhatus, gives tolerance, forbearance, and patience. This saves one from sorrows, agonies and anxieties.

10. Abhighat Sahatwa (resistance to injuries & power to recover quickly) – Those who massage the body regularly recover from physical injury more quickly than other person who do not massage. Those who massage regularly experience the healing process from within immediately and they experience comparatively less pain and fewer problems.

11. Kapha Vata Nirodhak – Subsides ailments caused by Vata and Kapha.

12. Mrija Varna Bala Prad – It maintains body strength, skin health and also improves the color and texture of the skin.

Thus in Ayurveda, abhyangam massage is highly praised and

much emphasis is placed on the use of oils in massage.

Udhwartanam is a special massage with herbal powders for diseases like hemiplegia, paralysis, obesity (excess fat) and certain rheumatic ailments.
Herbal powders are massaged in a special way for 30 to 45 minutes every day for 7 to 28 days. This is considered very good in reducing over weight and controlling cholesterol of the body. It also strengthens muscles and tightens loose skin . There are several types of powder massage for various disorders. Powder Massages are done for rheumatism, to reduce overweight and also to increase weight in some cases. The main powder used for Udhwarthanam is Kolakulathadhi Choornam.

However, you must note the above are only guidelines for Abhyangam and you should consult with a qualified ayurvedic physician. However you must take this massage by a specialist who has finished Massage courses through a known Institute Udhwartanam
